The global production of plastic reached 370 million tonnes in 2019. Every year, 2 to 3 % of this plastic is released into the marine environment with the consequence of environmental and economic damage. The Plastic pollution of the oceans is worsening and endangering marine biodiversity, permanently disrupting ecosystems. Yet, everyone can take action by adopting more responsible consumption habits: states, businesses, households…
The causes of plastic pollution
The Plastic pollution of the oceans comes largely from poorly collected or abandoned waste in nature. Transported by waterways, these plastics reach the seas where they gradually fragment into microplastics. These particles then contaminate oceans, soils, and the food chain.
The consequences of ocean pollution
Sea turtles, fish, birds and marine mammals are the first victims of Ocean pollution. Many mistake plastic for food or become trapped in it. Coral reefs and other natural habitats are also weakened, threatening the balance of marine biodiversity.
EIO's commitment
Facing the this situation, EIO is committed to offering a more responsible alternative. Collection EYE+EAU are made from recycled plastics recovered from the sea and waterways, to give a second life to materials destined to become waste.
Our approach is also based on French manufacturing and more responsible production, to design durable glasses that combine quality, design and respect for the environment.
Act against plastic pollution in the oceans
Reducing waste, promoting recycling and supporting responsible initiatives are concrete actions to combat Plastic pollution of the oceans. Together, everyone can help to preserve the oceans and the richness of their ecosystems.
